To meet\r\nthis need, we developed a spatial framework and database using National\r\nHydrography Dataset Plus (1:100,000-scale); http://www.\r\nhorizon-systems.com/nhdplus). This framework uses interconfluence\r\nriver reaches and their local and network catchments as fundamental\r\nspatial river units and a series of ecological and political\r\nspatial descriptors as hierarchy structures to allow users to extract or \r\nanalyze information at spatial scales that they define. This database\r\nconsists of variables describing channel characteristics, network position/\r\nconnectivity, climate, elevation, gradient, and size. It contains\r\na series of catchment-natural and human-induced factors that are\r\nknown to influence river characteristics. Our framework and database\r\nassembles all river reaches and their descriptors in one place\r\nfor the first time for the conterminous United States. This framework\r\nand database provides users with the capability of adding data,\r\nconducting analyses, developing management scenarios and regulation,\r\nand tracking management progresses at a variety of spatial scales. \r\nThis database provides the essential data needs for achieving\r\nthe objectives of NFHAP and other management programs.
