Aureophycus aleuticus evolutionary biology, ecology and population dynamics in Pribilof Domain, Bering Sea, Alas

Since discovery of this second known population of the Golden V Kelp, Aureophycus aleuticus, we have been examined molecular phylogeny, evolutionary history, and are attempting to elucidate its phylogeography. Annual field studies address growth, reproduction, habitat features, oceanographic parameters, and ecological role in the nearshore ecosystem. Results to date have yielded the first information on this rare kelp's growth rates, colonization patterns and extraordinarily unique reproductive strategy.
