Avian Studies in the Kuparuk Oilfield, 2012

ABR, Inc., has conducted avian studies in the Kuparuk Oilfield for ConocoPhillips Alaska (formerly PHILLIPS Alaska, Inc.) and its predecessor, ARCO Alaska, Inc., since 1988. The emphasis of this study in recent years has been long-term monitoring of the distribution, abundance, and productivity of selected waterfowl populations. Our studies in 2012 focused on 3 species: Spectacled Eider (Somateria fischeri), Tundra Swan (Cygnus columbianus), and Brant (Branta bernicla). This report summarizes the results of 2012 surveys for these 3 species. Unlike annual reports prior to 2005, this data report briefly summarizes objectives and annual survey results for each species, including supporting tables and figures, but with limited analysis or historical context.
