The Happy Valley patterned-ground grids are located in Subzone E, the warmest part of the Arctic, in the foothills of the Brooks Range, just west of the Sagavanirktok River and the Dalton Highway. There are three 10 x 10-m grids along a hill slope, one on the crest of the hill (dry), one on the mid-slope (mesic), and one on the toe slope (wet). All three have tussock-sedge, erect dwarf-shrub, moss vegetation.
