This report is based on research performed by Stephen R. Braund and Associates under contract with the North Slope Borough (NSB). Funding for the project is through a grant from the National Petroleum Reserve- Alaska Impact Program administered by the State of Alaska Department of Community and Economic Development, Division of Community Advocacy. The study has four objectives: 1) Document the impacts and benefits of oil and gas development as perceived by NSB residents of four communities: Nuiqsut, Barror, Atqasuk, and Wainwright; 2) Document personal experiences with the impacts and benefits; 3) Identify ways in which impacts can be mitigated and benefits enhanced; 4) Place oil and gas impacts in the context of how the well-being of North Slope residents has changed over the past thirty years and how it compares with the well-being of other arctic residents.
