In March 2014, personnel from the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), and their contractor, Alaska Ecological Research (AER), met with leadership entities in Wainwright, Alaska to gather information from the Wainwright area pertaining to the development of the Arctic Marine Mammal Disaster Response Plan (AMMDRP). The goals of the meetings were to apprise leadership organizations of the development of the AMMDRP and to Discuss regionally specific disaster response information including effective communication methods, current emergency procedures, local hire/training, carcass collection, community priorities during a response, response logistics, subsistence concerns, current means for handling food safety issues, and other topics relevant to disaster response. This report is a summary of the concerns and recommendations from those discussions.
