Duck Creek, located in the Mendenhall Valley in Juneau, Alaska, has experienced dramatic
development in the last 50 years resulting in a decline in water quality and loss of fish habitat and
populations. During the 1990s government agencies recognized this loss and the Alaska Department
of Environmental Conservation listed this stream on its Alaska Clean Water Action list of impaired
waterbodies. Numerous restoration projects were conducted in the following decade and a water
quality monitoring plan was implemented. This report serves to identify the restoration projects that
have been conducted and, based on current water quality data, assess the restoration progress on Duck
Creek. Based on these findings and the results of current hydrologic studies new recommendations
will be identified for future efforts on this creek.
