Community Data

I am currently constructing a data set of Kenai “places” (communities) which includes demographic characteristics from 1980-2014. Most of these data are available publicly but are scattered across multiple data sources and are often in a format that is cumbersome and unwieldy. This will allow for a more seamless assessment of demographic changes occurring across test case and outlying communities. It could serve as "one-stop shopping" for EPSCoR researchers seeking data on community-level demographic change for papers, presentations, etc. The preliminary data set will include basic characteristics like population size, density, age/sex composition and urbanization. Subsequent add-ons will include characteristics such as housing tenure, migration, race/ethnicity, occupation, education, and income.
